# Deployment advice for Citrix and RDP environments

> Guidance for IT administrators deploying Draftable Legal in Citrix, Remote Desktop (RDP/RDS), and other shared-session environments, covering the correct installer to use and how licensing is configured for these setups.

Draftable Legal is fully supported in Citrix and Remote Desktop (RDP/RDS) environments. There are two things to get right for a smooth rollout: choosing the correct installer, and making sure your licence is configured for your environment **before** your users start activating.

<Note>
  Throughout this article, "Citrix and Remote Desktop environments" covers Citrix, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session hosts, and similar virtual or shared-session setups (including VDI).
</Note>

## Installing in Citrix and Remote Desktop environments

For Citrix and Remote Desktop deployments, use the **Machine-Wide MSI** (also known as the System-Wide MSI, Native MSI, or Per-Machine MSI). This installs a single shared copy of Draftable Legal that every user on the host can launch, including concurrently — which is exactly what these environments need.

The default per-user EXE installer is **not** suitable for Citrix or Remote Desktop hosts.

For full guidance on deploying the Machine-Wide MSI, see:

* [Enterprise deployment options](/hc/en-us/articles/16018288168601-Enterprise-deployment-options)
* [Deployment options via MSI (System-wide) installer](/hc/en-us/articles/31609155610393-Deployment-options-via-MSI-System-wide-installer)

<Warning>
  **Include the HTTP Listener Service — this is required.** Your MSI deployment must include the HTTP Listener Service (the `HttpListener` feature) — set **Http service** (under **Integrations**) to install, or add `HttpListener` to your `ADDLOCAL` list. It is required for launching comparisons from iManage on multi-user hosts, for the Draftable Outlook add-in (Redline in Email), and for launching Draftable when it is not already running. For the complete configuration in these environments, see the [iManage HTTP Listener Service installation guide](/hc/en-us/articles/33978111642905-Alternative-iManage-HTTP-listener-service-installation-guide-for-Draftable-Legal).
</Warning>

<Note>
  To use the Draftable Outlook add-in and Redline in Email in Citrix or Remote Desktop environments, your deployment must be on **Draftable Legal v26.3.0 or later**. Earlier versions do not support these features in these environments.
</Note>

## Licensing in Citrix and Remote Desktop environments

Licensing in Citrix and Remote Desktop environments works differently to a standard installation on individual machines. Because of how these environments are structured, your licence needs to be configured specifically for your setup so that every user can activate without being blocked.

To make sure this is handled correctly, **contact Draftable Support or your account manager before you deploy** and let us know:

<Steps>
  <Step title="How many users you have">
    The number of users (seats) who will be using Draftable Legal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="How many Citrix or Remote Desktop servers you have">
    The number of Citrix or Remote Desktop servers (hosts) that Draftable Legal will be installed on and run from.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Once we have these two numbers, we will configure your licence on our end so it is correctly aligned with your environment. There is nothing extra you need to do — just deploy the Machine-Wide MSI and apply your product key as normal.

<Warning>
  If users see an **"All activations in use"** message in a Citrix or Remote Desktop environment, it usually means the licence has not yet been configured for your setup. Contact [support@draftable.com](mailto:support@draftable.com) and we will resolve it — there is no additional cost.
</Warning>

## When your environment changes

Your licence is configured around the number of users and servers you tell us about, so please let us know whenever that changes. Get in touch with Support or your account manager if you:

* Add or remove Citrix or Remote Desktop servers
* Change your number of users or seats

This applies even if your total user count stays the same. For example, if two users leave and two new users join, or if you move users onto additional servers, your activations can be affected — so a quick note to us keeps everything aligned and reclaims any licences that are no longer needed.

When you tell us your new number of users and servers, we will update your licence accordingly so your team can keep working without interruption.

<Tip>
  Not sure who your account manager is, or how many licences you have? Contact [support@draftable.com](mailto:support@draftable.com) and we will point you in the right direction and confirm your current licence details.
